Welcome Dr. DeKoninck

Dr. Kent DeKoninck is Approved as
Southwest Allen County Schools New Superintendent

At the June 18th  Southwest Allen County Schools (SACS) School Board Meeting, SACS Board of Trustees unanimously approved Dr. Kent DeKoninck as the district’s new Superintendent. Dr DeKoninck will assume his leadership position on July 1, 2024.

"Dr. DeKoninck is a highly respected educator and leader with a proven history of fostering relationships and supporting students, families, and staff," stated Jennifer Bennett, President, SACS School Board of Trustees. "We are confident that Dr. DeKoninck is the ideal leader to uphold our commitment to excellence and enhance learning opportunities for all students."

With over 33 years of experience in public education, Dr. DeKoninck is a native of the Ft. Wayne, Ind. area. He received his bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education from Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), now known as Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) and his master’s degree in Counseling from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).  He attended Indiana State University where he received his Ph.D.

Dr. DeKoninck has held various positions throughout his career, including junior/high school teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, director of personnel, and assistant superintendent, serving in schools across Westfield, Carmel, Avon, and Perry Township. Before retiring in 2021, he spent eight years as the Superintendent of Greenwood Community Schools, during which he was honored as Indiana’s 2021 Superintendent of the Year.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Southwest Allen Schools’ Superintendent,” said Dr. DeKoninck. “This community is outstanding. The students and faculty are extraordinary. Together we will continue to advance and enhance SACS’ already strong foundation of excellence.”

After retiring in 2021, Dr. DeKoninck and his wife moved back to Fort Wayne to be closer to their children and grandchildren. “I retired from public education in 2021 and have continued to serve school districts, administrators, and businesses throughout Indiana as a consultant and mentor. I knew it would take something special for me to leave ‘retirement’, and this opportunity at SACS is exactly that. It is special! I look forward to once again working alongside students, staff, and families to do great things for all children.”
